Security is highly valued at Firbanks, so
you won't have to worry about your valuable information. Your data is sent
compressed and encrypted via a SSL connection to the highly secure datacenter
where it's safely stored in duplicate (at 2 separate locations). Every backup
user can limit the online access to his data to a predefined list of
IP-addresses.
Access
The encryption key which you generate yourself is only known by you and
will never be sent through the internet. If you lose your encryption key your
backup will be lost forever! The content of your backup is absolutely unreadable
for Firbanks despite the fact that Firbanks has access to the encrypted files
stored on the backup server.
Always keep your encryption key in a
safe place!
Without the encryption key NOBODY will
be able to restore your backup. This includes Firbanks and the software
developers!
Connection
To establish the secure connection Firbanks
uses a SSL connection. This protocol is similar to the one that banks use for
online banking. Despite the fact that your data are submitted via the internet
it's impossible for people who intercept it to read the content.
