WAN/VPN Connectivity WAN stands for 'Wide Area Network' and the easiest way to describe its use is that if you own more than one office, and require communications between the two (or more) sites, we implement a WAN. The cheapest and most cost-effective form of a WAN is to use an encrypted tunnel between two sites (VPN - Virtual Private Network). You make use of your existing broadband connection, encrypt the data transmitted between the two sites. VPN technology can also be used by teleworkers working from home it is the same technology but implemented in a slightly different way, the connection is temporary as the connection only needs to exist whilst the user is logged in to the work network. What can a VPN Offer? Accessing the work files, emails, desktop from home or a laptop from another location. Wired/Wireless Networks Whether you have an existing network structure that requires improvement, set up a new network or add the ability to connect wirelessly. Firbanks PC Maintenance are currently involved in assisting with a community wireless network, currently being trialled in Hedge End and West End. |
